Bureau for Solid Minerals

Bureau for solid minerals is the official engagement of Taraba State Government in its quest to develop the solid material sub sector in the state with the view to enhance not only the overall economic activities in the state but consequently increase substantially its capacity for internally generated revenue.

2) The need for the state, Taraba State to establish Bureau for Solid Minerals was to have an abled channel by which the State focuses on the enormous solid mineral potential in the state could be productively harnessed to create wealth/ job opportunities.
3) The Bureau for solid minerals has a double role namely;

I) Policy formulation,
II) Implementation of approved government decisions in the sub sector in the state. With those functions, the Bureau is charged basically with the function of assessing, protecting and encouraging secured investment in the solid minerals potential of the state.

The Bureau for solid minerals have the following function/ objectives:

i) To liaise with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development on all matters pertaining to solid minerals development in the State to achieve sanity, enforce legality and ensure orderly mining operations in Taraba State.

ii) To advise and guide the State Government on all policy matters relating to solid minerals in the state to ensure that the interest of the state in the sub- sector is protected.

iii) To assist the State establish and make functional, a mining company ( The legal entity) required to engage in direct mining activities so as to create wealth and job opportunities in the State.

iv) To conduct consistent awareness campaigns and assist in creating a conducive environment for mining company wishing to invest in the State. 

v) To collect revenue for the state on solid minerals development activities in the state.
These functions were to enable the Bureau collect/ collate necessary data in the sub- sector for needed effective Government policy formation as well as as ensuring the collection of revenue due to the state.
